From the end of 2020 until early March 2021, an architecture competition was held for the Tartu County Recreational Sports Centre. The aim of the competition was to find the best functional, architectural and landscape-architectural solution for constructing a modern shooting sports competition centre building and the adjacent facilities and structures, mainly on the Laskespordibaasi and Tiiru land units in Elva municipality. The competition area included the Tartu County Recreational Sports Centre property and the related finish section of the Tartu Marathon course. The property owner and contracting authority was the Tehvandi Sports Centre Foundation.
According to the detailed plan for the Tartu County Recreational Sports Centre, the plot is intended to include a shooting sports complex, a camping area, a judges’ house and facilities supporting various active activities (ball courts, climbing wall, campfire site, playground, etc.). The buildings of the shooting sports complex and the judges’ house are treated as the main buildings.
Six different entries were submitted by the deadline. The public procurement committee found all submitted documents compliant and all applicants qualified, after which the entries were passed to the architecture competition jury with the following members:
